Who We Are and What We Do

The band was founded in 2002 by myself, Nicola Coker, as a music teacher at Heanor Gate Science College. It has evolved over the years to take in players from across the East Midlands.

Pure Steel band after school clubs and workshops can be tailored to suit any group or audience regardless of age or ability.

Tailored to suit any group or audience, Pure Steel can provide a professional, interactive experience for any business wishing to motivate their employees, build relationships or simply to provide a rewarding activity that’s ‘different’.

As a qualified teacher, Nicola is able to offer steel pan tuition both on a 1:1 and group level. New and exciting developments in examinations for both individual players and groups are being introduced across the UK.

‘Pure Steel’ have performed at the Elvaston Castle Steam Show for around eight years. They are absolutely brilliant and very talented young people, who give a great deal of pleasure to thousands of people. They always draw a great crowd. We also have the greatest admiration for Nicola who is an extremely talented musician and an excellent teacher.
